
The fourth generation (4G) of R&D and innovation management has twelve new fundamental principles and practices, summarized in the “Twelve Principles of Fourth Generation R&D Management” figure. Practicing these principles is essential in order to unleash radical innovation in an organization. Key in these processes is the tight integration between business models and technology developments. Such integrated action is needed in order to meet the third principle of targeting a new Dominant Design. The dominant design usually incorporates both the preferred business model and technology preferences of customers.
