The news of a Union being formed at Google highlights the importance of congruent Company Vision, Mission and Values. Although formation of a Union will not likely have a material effect on Google’s top management’s incongruent behavior, the Union’s formation does indicate that senior individuals are deviating from the basic “tacit” governing principles of the company. As I’ve been present during of the destruction of three Fortune 500 companies, I’ve had a chance to witness and understand firsthand the underlying causes. These causes never really get mentioned in the news which is why I bring it up here, as once the dysfunction and incongruence between words and actions starts, it is almost impossible to reverse.
